The current flu and winter vomiting epidemic is seriously affecting the running of Hanson Academy. After seeking advice from Bradford Local Authority and Environmental Health, the governing body have taken the decision to close the school early for the Christmas break. The school therefore will be closed to all staff and students as from Wednesday, 17th December at 12pm. A deep clean of the whole site will then take place. Free school meals are available from the Atrium at 12.00pm.
Our Candlelight Concert is always a very special time of year for us here at Hanson, it means that the festive season is once again just around the corner.
We had a delightful evening being entertained by some amazingly talented students. The Vocal Group performed ‘Shedryk (Carol of the Bells), The Holly and the Ivy and also the very popular 'Let it Go' from Frozen. Hanson Voices created an amazing sound with their version of 'Do You Want To Build A Snowman' and brought a tear to the eye with Ed Sheeran's
"On Wednesday 3rd December 2014 the first ever 'Friends of Hanson Academy' association meeting was held at the school. A team of staff, including the Principal, met with 9 members of the local community to discuss all matters relating to the new association. The meeting was very successful and shows the commitment of the school and members within the community to develop their relationship and move the school forward. It was decided that the school will host the 'Come Dine with Hanson Dinner' for some me

There are currently two vacancies for parent governors on the school’s governing body and I am writing to you to invite nominations for this position.
Any parent with a child on register at the school is eligible to become a parent governor.
A parent is disqualified from election as a governor of a school if they are an elected member of the LEA or if they work at the school for more than 500 hours in a school year (at the time of election or appointment).
The governing body has considerable responsibility
‘Monday afternoon, following advice from the emergency services we carried out an emergency evacuation of the building. The basis for this evacuation led to the Police asking that we hold students until it was felt safe to release them to go home. Due to the nature of the issues, we were unable, at that time, to allow students back into the building to secure any belongings they had left behind and so assisted students this morning to retrieve all their personal belongings before they went to registration.

"In conjunction with West Yorkshire Police we have been advised to inform parents/carers that it is critical that students are dropped off or pick up from the GOALS turning circle at the beginning and the end of the school day. Exceptions will be made in cases of disability. We would also ask that you do not use Sutton Avenue at these times as this will be dangerous.
However, from 8:15 am until 2:40 pm (during the school day) the only entrance will be via Sutton Avenue.

Firstly, can we thank you for your cooperation and support this week with the reinforcement of our uniform expectations. The school has been a smarter, calmer and more studious environment this week.
We have found ourselves in the forefront of the media and many schools have now started to adopt the same attitude to their own uniform problems.

Our uniform and dress codes set the tone for our community and provide the scaffolding for high standards in every aspect of school life. To ensure that parents and students were fully aware of the high expectations that we would have this academic year we communicated clearly our expectations with parents and students at the end of the summer term, during the school holidays and at the start of this term; we were clear that we would be diligent with monitoring school uniform.
