During the Summer holiday three Hanson students travelled down to the RNLI (Royal National Lifeboat Institution) college in Poole on the south coast to hand over two cheques to the charity. As a school we have raised over 600 pounds for the charity over the previous few months.
The fundraising started in May when we held a Mayday Mayday event to educate the students on water safety, first aid and the role of the RNLI around our coast line. Each year group had an assembly led by Martin Chappellow, a volunteer educator within the charity, and two lifeguards from the East coast. The students also took part in a non uniform day and a welly throwing contest as a means of raising some money for the charity.
The fundraising continued during the Summer holidays when our new Year 7 students who attended the Hanson Academy Summer School had their own RNLI themed day and raised almost 200 pounds themselves. We are already planning next years Mayday Mayday event and we hope to make it bigger and better than this year.
